Fascinating read. I never heard of the Eri chair before and I must say that it has an amazing story.
I find it interesting, as you highlight, that while it’s a design founded on cultural cross-polination, it actually failed as it took the wrong elements of each culture, creating something that doesn’t work -on a cultural level- in neither conext.
Of course it doesn’t hurt that I find the chair itself is quite beautiful.
